Graffiti Be Gone
Sept 12 – 23, 2011

I was selected by Bernadette Geronazzo, Executive Director of the Marda Loop BRZ to adorn three Utility Boxes on 33 Avenue SW with my unique, stained glass inspired style. This project was in collaboration with the City of Calgary Roads Department and painting began the afternoon of Monday, September 12, 2011. Not only did this public art initiative add colour and artistic flare to the already trendy area, it also simultaneously acts as a graffiti deterrent.

The three utility box locations are at 33 Avenue & 14 Street, 20 Street and 22 Street SW. I selected Irises, Tulips and Poppies as the main elements for each box. My vision was that the floral theme would bring light and colour to the area, especially during cold and long Calgary winters.  In addition to beautifying the city, the painting project encourages Calgarians to embrace fine art into their busy, everyday lives.
